THURGOOD MARSHALL COLLEGE FUND TO HONOR ICONIC SPORTS JOURNALIST AND NEW JERSEY COMMUNITY LEADERS

BELLEVILLE, NJ – (March 15, 2011) The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) will host its 11th Annual Awards of Excellence dinner at Belleville, New Jersey’s Nanina’s in the Park on Thursday, March 24, 2011. TMCF regional events honor community leaders in select markets for their professional and civic excellence, as well as their contributions to education and diversity. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC, PSEG, Lowenstein Sandler, Prudential, Verizon, and GIBBONS lead a host of event sponsors in providing financial assistance to deserving students attending TMCF’s 47-member network of public Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs).
This year’s honorees are Raymond M. Brown, Esq., a partner at Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis, LLP; Barbara Bell Coleman, president of BBC Associates LLC; Lawrence S. Lustberg, Esq., director of GIBBONS, P.C.; and Jerry Izenberg, a retired Sports Journalist for the Star Ledger. George Foreman, former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, entrepreneur, and author will make a special appearance to present the award to Jerry Izenberg. New Jersey State Superior Court Judge, The Honorable Shirley A. Tolentino, will also be recognized posthumously.
“These community leaders inspire our youth and serve as role models for the nearly 300,000 young men and women who are matriculating on our 47-member school campuses,” said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., TMCF’s President and CEO. “We acknowledge their efforts to continue to unite people of all ethnicities and backgrounds to ensure that educational opportunities are available for everyone.”
