STATEMENT FROM DWAYNE ASHLEY REGARDING MICHAEL JACKSON’S SUPPORT OF HBCUS
Legendary Singer, Songwriter, Dancer Transcended Cultural Barriers and Helped raise millions for HBCUs through proceeds from his albums
New York, NY – June 26, 2009 – For most of the baby boomers and generation X,
Michael Jackson was the talented and charismatic entertainer who inspired many young African Americans to pursue careers that broke racial barriers. His artistry fulfilled the legacy of Thurgood Marshall’s commitment to equality through his international cross cultural success.
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund celebrates Michael Jackson’s commitment to Historically Black Colleges and Universities. His donations through proceeds from many of his albums to benefit the HBCUs and students enabled thousands of students to get an education.
His 1985 landmark collaboration of We Are the World to benefit the USA for Africa humanitarian outreach was groundbreaking, and set a new standard for cause-related fundraising.
For his inspiration to humanity, he should forever be remembered by today’s youth as simply the trailblazer. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Jackson family, especially his parents, children, brothers and sisters
