AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE RAISES OVER $450,000 FOR 2011

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) would like to extend a big thank you to our donors, sponsors, committee members and honorees that played a significant role in organizing our five Awards of Excellence (AOE) events for 2011. A tremendous amount of work was invested to assure the success of each event.  TMCF raised over $450,000 in 2011, a 39% increase from 2010.

TMCF’s Awards of Excellence (AOE) were created in 2000 to recognize notable individuals, in a specific geographic location, who serve as role models as a result of significant achievement in a chosen field, community service, or by exemplifying Justice Thurgood Marshall’s commitment to impartiality, civil rights and education. The events, which are designed to celebrate like-minded leaders, are annual reminders of Justice Thurgood Marshall’s legacy and support new partnerships between AOE honorees and sponsors to support students at our member-schools comprised of 47 public Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

The Awards of Excellence (AOE) were designed to increase awareness of TMCF and its programs, raise funds, identify and nurture potential national supporters, provide a forum for TMCF to foster internships and job placements for TMCF scholars, assist TMCF development staff members by providing a platform to introduce prospective sponsors, and to showcase TMCF students and member schools.

This year’s events were held in the following cities:
  • Newark, NJ, March 2011, Nanina’s in the Park
  • Miami, FL, May 2011, Epic Hotel
  • Chicago, IL, July 2011, Law Offices of Sidley Austin LLP
  • Charlotte, NC, October 2011, Founders Hall
