Thurgood Marshall College Fund Holds First Chicago Awards Of Excellence Event

WHO:
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) honored Martin R. Castro, Esq., President & CEO of Castro Synergies, LLC, and Chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights & the Illinois Human Rights Commission; Maria C. Green, Esq., Deputy General Counsel at Illinois Tool Works; James D. Montgomery, Esq., Partner, Cochran, Cherry, Givens, Smith & Montgomery; and Kimberly Y. Smith, M.D., Infectious Disease Specialist at Rush University Medical Center.
TMCF Board Member Stanley B. Stallworth, Esq., a partner with Sidley Austin, LLP, served as the chair for this event. Cheryl Burton, co-anchor of WLS-TV’s ABC 7 News at 5 p.m. and contributing anchor at ABC 7,served as the event’s Mistress of Ceremonies. Special guests who gave student testimonies included TMCF Scholars Donald L. Anderson, Jr. and Maurice Walls.
Also in attendance were three Chicago State University students who received TMCF scholarships during a radio broadcast on the morning of Thursday, July 14th. The scholarship recipients were: Beatrice Diaz, Jasmine Washington, and Vanessa Williams.
WHAT:
TMCF’s First Chicago Awards of Excellence, part of TMCF’s regional “Awards of Excellence” program.
WHY:
To honor deserving individuals who have achieved excellence in their respective professions and who are following in the footsteps of Justice Thurgood Marshall with proven leadership skills, community involvement, professional and civic excellence, as well as contributions to education and diversity.
