BUSINESS AND HOLLYWOOD LUMINARIES CAME OUT IN FORCE TO CELEBRATE TMCF's 24TH ANNIVERSARY

WHO
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) hosted its 24th Anniversary Dinner on Monday, October 24, 2011, at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers. Hosted by Multi-Award Winning Gospel Music Artist, Pastor Shirley Caesar, and for the first time, honoring the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon with the International Humanitarian of the Year Award. Other honorees of the evening included: Breaking Barriers Award: Russell Simmons, chairman, Rush Communications; Founders Award: John Esposito, former president and CEO, Bacardi USA, Inc.; Community Leadership Award: Rollin L. Ford, executive vice president and chief information officer, Walmart Stores, Inc.; Corporate Leadership Award: Jesse L. Calloway, VP and general manager, Tobacco Processing; & Manufacturing, Philip Morris, USA; Educational Leadership Award: Dr. Thelma Thompson, former president, University of Maryland Eastern Shore; Alumni Honorees: Tommy W. Dortch, chairman and chief executive officer of TWD, Inc., and Carl W. Turnipseed, executive vice president, Financial Services Group at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

TMCF’s 24THAnniversary Dinner celebration featured a number of celebrities and special guest which included Blair Underwood, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Tichina Arnold, Rockmond Dunbar, Lamman Rucker, Carl Lewis, Rebecca Crews, Melyssa Ford and notable professionals in the fields of education, law and business. 

WHAT
Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s 24th Anniversary Dinner received over 1500 guests from the worlds of entertainment, business and global leadership and over 600 students who attended the Leadership Institute and Recruitment Fair. The prestigious annual dinner was streamed live for the first time in its history and raised $1.5 million.

During the event, TMCF took an opportunity to mark a significant upcoming milestone, ramping up for the organization’s silver anniversary in 2012. The occasion was commemorated with three donors committing $2.5 million in gifts to TMCF: Altria, Walmart, Inc. and MillerCoors. 

WHY


The largest night of the year for TMCF to raise funds that will allow them to continue to support the nearly 300,000 students on the campuses of public HBCU’s and to honor industry leaders who support TMCF in Developing Minds … Delivering Dreams.
