North Carolina Central Earns 14 Seed in NCAA Tournament

The North Carolina Central University Eagles will open the NCAA national men’s basketball tournament as a 14-seed in the east region, the first tournament berth in the school’s history and the highest seeding for a MEAC champion in the tournament since the North Carolina A&T Aggies earned a 14 seed in 1988.

The Eagles defeated Morgan State University 71-62 in the MEAC men’s basketball tournament championship on Saturday, paced by MEAC Player of the Year Jeremy Ingram with 29 points.

SWAC men’s champion Texas Southern University will open the tournament in the play-in bracket against Cal Poly, for the right to face overall tournament number one seed Wichita State. TSU defeated in-state rival Prairie View A&M University 78-73 on Saturday behind forward Aaric Murray’s 27 points and 10 rebounds.
