Sponsored by the Walmart Foundation, this scholarship addresses the need to increase the retention rates among first generation college students. Understanding the financial needs of a first generation college student can make the difference in a student being able to enter college and the assistance in keeping them focused and financially fueled towards the graduation of there family's first degree.

This scholarship will be awarded to 100 deserving first generation students entering college and scholarships will be renewed annually (up to 4 years) to students continuing to meet the eligibility criteria for this program.

Along with this scholarship each first generation scholar will receive the helping hand and guidance of a peer mentor. These mentors will be carefully selected to assist each scholar in academic support and successful career paths.

Eligibility criteria:

• Must be a first generation college student
• Must be a citizen of the United States of America
• Must be enrolled full-time pursuing a degree in any discipline at one of the 47 TMCF member colleges or universities
• Must be a first semester or incoming freshman
• Must have a GPA of not less than 2.5 and must maintain not less than a 3.0 GPA each year for the duration of the scholarship award period
• Must have combined verbal/math score of 1650 or more on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or a score of 25 or higher on the American College Testing (ACT) examination
• Must have a demonstrated unmet financial need.
