Page 1 of 4 INTRODUCTION
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund Future Scholars was born out of a mission to raise the awareness of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) amongst elementary and middle school students. HBCUs have a rich history of providing education to an audience that primarily may have not had an opportunity in the past to pursue higher education.

HBCUs have an extensive list of producing many past and present leaders including Justice Thurgood Marshall, Sr., Dr. Martin Luther King, Oprah Winfrey, Earl G. Graves, Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Jr., Barbara Jordan, Ronald McNair and Reginald Lewis, just to name a few.
Since their inception, HBCUs have generated leaders in every category of American business including education, law, philanthropy, medicine, science, mathematics, athletics, marketing, government, entertainment, hospitality and military.
The contributions of graduates of the 103 public and private HBCUs continue. This initiative is targeted to students, community groups, churches, mentoring organizations. |
