4th Annual TMCF Civic Responsibility Conference
February 22 - February 25, 2010 - Washington, DC - The TMCF Civic Responsibility Conference (CRC) is a national program designed to introduce HBCU students interested in careers in STEM
At the federal level or public service with the various government agencies. During this conference students are introduced to the legislative process and the executive branch of government.
One-hundred (100) highly selected students from across the country will go to Washington, DC to participate in two-days of workshops focusing on the underpinnings of the legislative process as well as to receive information on government STEM initiatives to which they can participate. Throughout the conference students will be introduced to current public policy issues and the organizations and people who shape them. In addition, students will be escorted to Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress to discuss the impact that both the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and public HBCUs have made in their lives.
Participating students will:
- Attend legislative meetings with their congressional representatives.
- Participate in workshops on advocacy.
- Participate in STEM workshops designed to educate them on career opportunities in the field.
Students must meet the following criteria to participate in the TMCF Civic Responsibility Conference:
- Be a full-time student at one of the 47 public HBCUs;
- Major in political science, government, criminal justice, journalism, English, computer science/technology or electrical engineering;
- Have demonstrated interest in a career in public service;
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or better.
TMCF will cover all costs including travel arrangements, hotel accommodations & meals.
