TMCF 2008 annual report
As you areaware, 80 percent of all students attending HBCUs are enrolled atTMCF-member schools. We are the only national organization thatprovides resources, opportunities, scholarships and advocacy to the 47public HBCUs and six historically black law schools in 22 states, theDistrict of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. TMCF isundergoing some exciting transitions with the implementation of anambitious 5-year strategic plan last year. We reached several notablemilestones during 2008, and we are proud to share these with you in theannual report.
The highlights include:
• Ranked as a 4 STAR Charity for the third Consecutive year by Charity Navigator based on organizational efficiency
• Maintained a low administrative cost, 3%, and fundraising cost, 8%, continuing our commitment to maximizing donor’s returns
• Launching a special “Thurgood Marshall” tribute site in celebration of Justice Marshall’s 100th Birthday
• Surpassingthe $100 million mark in fundraising for leadership development,programmatic and capacity support, and scholarships for students
• Expanding our annual “Leadership Programs” to include high school students
• Launching the iLearn platform to provide access to leadership courses to all 235,000 students attending our member universities
• Launching HBCU Professor.org to serve as a scholarly platform for faculty members
• Launchingthe pilot HBCU “Teacher Training Institute” in Atlanta, in preparationfor the national launch of the Teacher Quality & Retention
• Program,which is designed to prepare 10,000 pre-service teachers from HBCUs toteach in high-need urban and rural school districts during the nextfive years.
