Thurgood Marshall College Fund Online Courses
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s (TMCFs) online courses are designed to provide member-schools students with the tools needed to plan a career path and successfully navigate internship and employment opportunities.
The courses are divided into to following seven modules:
- Personal Goal Setting: Building Bridges to Success
- Career Readiness: Identifying a “Unique Selling Proposition”
- Written Communication: Composing a Clear and Compelling Resume
- Career Skills: Strategic Networking
- Problem Solving: Using Analysis to Get Results
- Conflict Resolution: Finding the Best Approach
- Setting Priorities: Maximizing Productivity

GOAL: To provide supplemental training in career preparation and leadership development to TMCF Scholars.
Module 1.0 Personal Goal Setting: Building Bridges to Success
Duration: 1 Hour
At the end of this course, TMCF Scholars will be able to:
- Develop long and short-term personal goals
- Articulate Strategic, Measureable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART) career goals

Module 2.0 Career Readiness: Identifying a “Unique Selling Proposition”
Duration: 1 Hour
At the end of this course, TMCF Scholars will be able to:
- Determine what potential employers value most
- Gain the advantage by identifying their “Unique Selling Propositions” (USP)
STEP 2 – Complete Workbook Exercises
- Identify top 3 career-building opportunities
- Align “valued characteristics” to these opportunities
- Analyze personal characteristics to determine what constitutes optimal performance
Module 3.0 Written Communication: Composing a Clear and Compelling Resume
Duration: 1 Hour
At the end of this course, TMCF Scholars will be able to:
- Identify and correct the most common mistakes people make in written communication
- Utilize TMCF’s resume template to compose an error-free submission

Module 4.0 Career Skills: Strategic Networking
Duration: 1 Hour
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify effective networking strategies
- Devise a internship/career-based networking plan

Module 5.0 Problem Solving: Using Analysis to Get Results
Duration: 1 Hour
At the end of this course, TMCF Scholars will be able to:
- Identify the root causes of a complex problem
- Design solutions that address causes and not just symptoms
STEP 2 – Complete Workbook Exercises
- Define the problem to uncover its causes
- Use Cause/Effect diagrams to identify various contributing factors to a problem
- Drill down to the root causes of those factors
Module 6.0 Conflict Resolution: Finding the Best Approach
Duration: 1 Hour
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognize sources of conflict
- Use a collaborative approach to dealing with conflict
