Black History Month Release Celebrates Icons and Future of Fashion
(New York, NY – February 19, 2009) – The Thurgood Marshall College Fund is celebrating Black
History Month with the release of its 3rd Annual Front Row Fashion Show DVD. The DVD release
captures the spirit of innovation in fashion that was showcased by designs of leading African American
designers at last fall’s show.

The show also honors the contributions of fashion industry trailblazers, and serves as the kickoff event for
TMCF’s Anniversary weekend that raises funds to benefit public Historically Black Colleges and
Universities (HBCUs). Last year’s Anniversary weekend raised $3.9 million.
The DVD features guest host actress Tamara Tunie, and presenters singer/actress Vanessa Williams,
model agent Bethann Hardison, and journalist Harriete Cole. Emmy-award winning actress Lynn
Whitfield was the event’s Honorary Chairperson. The DVD also includes two students from HBCUs who
won the opportunity to strut the catwalk with the professionals for some invaluable career exposure.
Taavon Bazemore from Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland, and Donnitra Gilbert from
Florida A&M University in Tallahassee were flown to New York for the weekend as part of TMCF’s
ongoing efforts to help HBCU students interested in pursuing careers in the Fashion Industry.
Featured designers are: Douglas Says, Edward Wilkerson for Lafayette 148, Kevan Hall, SIXXfoota,
Stephen Burrows, Steven Cutting, Tracy Reese, Johnny Vincent, Sean John and Xiomara.
