“The Awards of Excellence events offer a great foundation to recognize community leaders who inspire and serve as role models for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s merit scholars,” said Dr. N. Joyce Payne, Founder of Thurgood Marshall College Fund.  “The Awards of Excellence events were founded ten years ago and have migrated across the country promoting the Fund and its efforts to provide financial and programmatic support to thousands of students.  We hope that corporations, businesses, foundations and organizations will join these very deserving honorees in their efforts to continue to unite people of all races and backgrounds to ensure that education and opportunity are available for everyone.”

John Marshall, Justice Marshall’s son, will provide the evening’s keynote address. In his speech, he will discuss the Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s critical charge to lead the production of our nation’s next leaders. To date, the TMCF has invested more than $100 million in scholarships, programmatic and capacity support and leadership development to the 47 public Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) it serves. To that end, 86% of the student population that attends public HBCUs relies on financial support to pursue degree attainment. The Awards of Excellence events are in alignment with TMCF’s overall goal to increase its awareness across the globe to further serve the 235,000 students that attend public HBCUs.
